Silverdale

In An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)

Silverdale is in the Arnside and Silverdale AONB please see https://www.arnsidesilverdaleaonb.org.uk/

The village straddles the Lancashire Cumbria border.

There are plenty of easy walks in the surrounding woodland and this is an excellent area for birdwatching.

Head up to Arnside Knott to enjoy the sweeping sea views or head for the shoreline, following the mix of beach and rock down to Jenny Brown's point. The Lancashire Coastal Way footpath goes from Silverdale to Freckleton and the Cumbria Coastal Way goes from Silverdale to Gretna.

The Village

The village is small with a population of c.1,500, but is well served by shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, including an Antiques Shop, Bicycle Shop, Blossom Bird Cafe, Cinnamon Spice Indian Restaurant, Co-op, Fish and Chip Van on Wednesdays, Independent Butcher – Nick Burrow, Post Office, Newsagent and Gift Shop, Pharmacy, Swimming Pool, The Royal Bar and Restaurant, The Silverdale Hotel, Wolf House Cafe and Gallery and Woodland Hotel.

The Bay and the Beach

The beach and its constant changes is fascinating and very beautiful, but before walking on the beach please always check the tide timetables. The tide goes out a long way and comes in very high and very fast, sometimes to the bottom of the steps leading from Beach Rise down to the shore.

You can see the tide starting to come in as it runs up the channel in front of the house. This channel can become deep very quickly, before the sand behind it is fully covered by the sea, making it  difficult to cross the channel.. All the sand does get covered by the sea at most high tides.
